About
Who We Are
Trusted Valuations for a Changing Market
”Natural Capital Valuation translates Whole Life Carbon Assessments and Ecological Specialist Reports into an RICS ‘Red Book‘ valuation report advising on if the purchase of land for habitat creation to meet development obligations for large development schemes meets both these obligations and the specific developer’s/land owner’s investment criteria requirements for the future at the same time. This allows informed decision making by them and their advisors.
Leadership
Led by Derek Jackman
Derek Jackman MRICS is a Chartered Surveyor with over a decade of valuation experience. He has advised developers, landowners and institutions on valuations for a range of purposes.
Derek is focussed on the interface between land and natural capital. By drawing on independently verified specialist Whole Life Carbon Assessments (WLCA) and Ecologist reports, he delivers valuations that are independent, objective, based on the latest Defra metrics and relevant market evidence which support informed decision making by those investors and their advisors in achieving their land sequestration goals for habitat creation whilst meeting legal obligations and investment return requirements.
Our Principles
What Sets Us Apart
Independent
Valuation-Led
Our expertise lies in professional land valuation, for biodiversity net gain purposes, not ecological measurement – bringing a unique, financial perspective to natural capital markets.
Market-Facing
We benchmark natural capital values against real land markets and the needs of development viability and construction carbon obligations to ensure practical outcomes.
RICS-Compliant
Every valuation is undertaken in line with the RICS Red Book and Sustainability & ESG Valuation Standards.
Our Mission
Why We Exist
Natural capital markets are rapidly transforming the way land is understood and valued. Biodiversity Net Gain, carbon sequestration, and ecosystem services are no longer just environmental concepts – they are financial drivers shaping planning, investment, and corporate strategy.
At Natural Capital Valuation, we exist to bridge the gap between ecology and valuation. Ecologists measure habitats, carbon stocks, and water systems; our role is to translate those technical outputs into market-tested, RICS red book compliant land valuations. This ensures that ecological benefits are recognised not just environmentally but financially.
